Happy Fifth Birthday to the one who made me a mom

Image
My sweet Emmy.  I barely know where to begin on this post.  Here were are November 29, 2013.  Your fifth birthday.  FIFTH!  As mother's we also have a tough time with our kids birthdays, as they seem to come by quicker and quicker each year.  This year being no different.  But something about FIVE seems so so old to me. You fit five very well my little girl.  You are so  independent and really becoming your own person.  You have likes, dislikes and a real personality.  You are a total sweetheart and really tune in to other people's emotions.  You are extremely well mannered and so so smart.  I cannot believe how close you are to reading already. You absolutely love school and all of your friends.  You work so hard  at everything and are always practicing your school work at home.  You have tons of friends, and they all love holding hands with you, and following whatever you want. We started you on dance this year and you absolutely love it .  And there really is nothing cuter t

I can barely put a coherent thought together in my regular life, so there's no way my blog is going to be anything other than some more random thoughts today. Please excuse my blog's appearance.  I can't afford to hire a designer right now, so I'm trying to make some code changes myself.  Except I really don't understand coding at all.  We'll see how this turns out, but bear with me! Skip is working on a guest post for next week!!  He wrote one a few months ago , and since it was such a hit, he was inspired to write another!  Make sure to check back on Monday and check it out. Skip finally got all caught up on Scandal with me.  What are were going to do every night now?!?! Oh right, we have about 48 hours worth of JFK specials on the DVR.  Husband is obsessed .  I used to go out dancing and catching up with old friends the night before Thanksgiving.  HUGE bar night in this are.  Now I'm excited to watch JFK specials with my husband.  My 20 year old self wou

Preventing A Carpet Stain

Three Simple Steps for Preventing a Carpet Stain Let’s face it! As parents, we’re often faced with spills and stains that can damage our beautiful carpets! Bye Bye Paci

Image
So as I mentioned briefly on Friday, we had to break Charlie of her pacifiers this weekend.  By society and doctor standards, she is really too old to have one at two and a half.  But that isn't why we had to take them away.  For the past few weeks, Charlie has been chewing on the nipple part of the pacifier. And twice in the past ten days, she has managed to chew the tops off the nipple.  We've caught it both times, but may not always be as lucky.  So the paci had to go. I waited after naptime Saturday {mainly for my own sanity} and the just cut the top off her remaining pacifier.  I didn't make a big deal out of it, or even draw attention to it.  Just cut it and left it off to the side. It was a little over an hour before Charlie even noticed it was cut.  When she brought it to me and said it was broken, I just said yes it was, and left it at that.  She didn't seem too broken up about it. Fast forward to bedtime.  As she was gathering up her "crew" of toys s

Friday Bits and Pieces

Happy Friday everyone!  It's rainy and crappy out here, but the fact that it's 50* makes it a little more bearable.  Gonna be coooooold next week! They have to do some maintenance at Emmy's school, so she has a half day today and is off all of next week!  I'm excited to get some quality time with my girl. Skip {who has to work on Thanksgiving and Emmy's birthday} is off from Sunday to Wednesday next week!  Four days of the four of us having no plans?  I can't wait.  It'll be the perfect relaxation time before the madness of the holidays begins.  I think it says a lot about people who have decorated for Christmas already and their lack of ability for delayed gratification. I believe I have found the answer to what has been destroying the ends of my hair for the past two years.  After doing a little research, I stumbled upon some people whose hair was ruined after using coconut oil {yes, the amazing stuff that is supposed to fix your hair}.  Apparently if yo

30 Miles in 30 Days

Time for another week of tracking mileage! Thursday November 14 - none Friday - 4.5 mile run Saturday - 3.5 mile run Sunday - 2.7 mile run Monday - 3.3 mile run {pushing Charlie, so it should totally count for more!} Tuesday - none Wednesday - none Weekly Total - 14 miles November Total - 44.2 Considering I didn't think I'd get to run much at all this week, I'm really pleased with what I did!  Being able to run for longer at each time has obviously really helped my mileage.  And surprisingly the 4.5 mile run I did was my easiest!  The others definitely felt a little harder, which is why I cut back a bit.  I am also proud of the run I did with Charlie.  I actually only planned to take a 2 mile walk with her, but girlfriend loves to move fast.  So run we did! It's going to be super cold this week, so most of my workouts are going to have to be indoors.  I'm really hoping to motivate myself to do a little treadmill running.  We'll see! I am still on track to final

The State of Things

The past two weeks have felt like forever, and are really taking a toll on me.  Both girls rotated the croup, and it took Charlie almost three times as long to kick it.  Which made her whiny, fussy, and be even more clingy with me that before.  I literally couldn't do anything unless I was holding her...and since she was sick, that meant we did nothing.  My house was a mess, I never left Charlie's side, even to run an errand, and the whining hit epic proportions.  We spent the last two weeks doing a lot of cuddling: A decent amount of TV watching: A few late night parties: And a whole lot of comfort food: But thankfully this week is going slightly better.  No Charlie won't let anyone other than me change her diaper, give her a bath, or put her to bed.  Yes, it seems like she screams more than she doesn't.  But things definitely are a bit better overall.  One, everyone is healthy {knock on wood} and two, I'm starting to figure out some of Charlie's fussiness.  I
