Happy 6th Birthday Emmy

Image
Six years ago today, Saturday November 29, 2008 at 8:39pm, after 15 hours of labor and 20 minutes of pushing, I heard the sweet words "It's a girl!" and our little Emmy came into this world. It's true what they say, that it all goes by in a flash.  I'm amazed at how quickly each year of her life has gone by. Emmy, the girl who made me a mom, has brought so much joy and love  into our lives.  I have absolutely loved getting to see you grow into such a lovely young lady.  You are so full of life and energy.  I hope you forever stay my "chattabox" and "never break up with horses".  Continue to love and care for people as fiercely as you do now. Every year with you has brought more happiness than the last.  I cannot wait to see what this next year hold for you!

Respect Our Police

Everyone in the country has an opinion today about the events that unfolded in Ferguson Missouri.  According to Twitter it's assumed that because I am a cop wife, I automatically side with Darren Wilson.  Obviously because us cop wives can't think for ourselves right?   Well let me tell you a little secret.  Us cop wives are probably able to understand this case the best and come to a conclusion based on facts, better than the average citizen. My husband has been a cop for 11 years.  I'm obviously very immersed into the law enforcement culture.  That means I know that not only are there some amazing cops, but some really crappy ones as well.  I know the stories of police brutality and the departments that sweep evidence under the rug to protect cops. I know the stories of police heroics that never make it to the news.  I know the laws for use of force.  I know the amount of cops who are assaulted every year...the ones who are spit on..called names...treated like dirt.  I kn

Five on Friday

Image
One day I'll be able to write real blog posts instead of just bullet points.  Sadly, today is not that day, so here's a little Five on Friday! {one} After 2 1/2 weeks of being sick, I finally went to the doctor yesterday as I had woken up with some severe sinus pain.  My cold had turned to a sinus infection, but at least I can finally take some meds to help kick this.  Which is good because poor Skip has succumbed to it now and is currently trying to sleep it off upstairs.  Better this week than next I guess? {two} It has been *freezing* here this week....actually below freezing.  I'm so not ready for a real feel of 10* in November.  Fleece leggings {from Family Dollar!} for the win. {three} My Charlie is the sweetest, squishiest love ever.  However she also knows how to push the boundaries more than I ever imagined.  I don't think it's fair to talk about my kids' behavior on here much, but let's just say I am just about at my wit's end recently.  I t

Everything I Touch Turns to......Dust?

Phew... I am happy to see last week gone.  It was a trying one for sure.  Thankfully nothing really major happened, just a few first world problems.  But sometimes it's hard not to think that karma is coming after you.  In the past two weeks it seems like everything I touch breaks: vacuum baby monitor Internet computer cell phone Skip's car I think that was it?  Thankfully the vacuum, baby monitor, Internet, and Skip's car were able to be fixed relatively easily and quickly.  There were all kinds of problems with our computer, so that was in the shop all last week.  Which would have been fine since we all have phones, IPads, etc, but that's where I've been writing my book!  Well, I hand write it first in a notebook, then type it up.  But not being able to type or look back at all really threw me off my game.  In fact I think it spurred the change I decided to make to the end of the book, meaning I deleted 30,000 words and now have to start over from there .  Good ti

We Thank You

Image
I could not let this day go by without a huge THANK YOU to all our veterans. I am so blessed to not only be married to one, but also have several other family members and friends who served. Thank you for all that you do and have done. Thank you for sacrificing your time and comfort so that we may be free. I felt so blessed to be able to take my daughter to school today, a privilege not given to many.  And it is all thanks to all of you.  So thank you all from the bottom of my heart. And a very special thank you to my man Skip.  The girls and I are very excited to celebrate you today and take you out for your free dinner tonight! So if you know, or see a veteran, make sure to give him or her a big hug and say thank you....it's the absolute least we can do.

Brain Dump Thursday

Image
I love a good brain dump post, especially on a cold rainy day, when Emmy is home sick, and I was up until 3:00 am writing.  It's going to take about a vat of coffee to get my through this day. - Speaking of writing, I've been making some real progress with my book.  Skip just helped me flesh out the ending last night.  It's the first time I actually know how the whole story is going to end.  I'm super excited about the progress I've made and am now hoping to push myself and have it all done by Christmas.  We'll see! - Good news and bad news at the podiatrist last week.  Good news is that I don't have a stress fracture.  Bad news is I have an inflamed nerve in my foot.  The doctor taped up my foot and I was banned from working out for a week.  It has been so frustrating to not be able to do anything  for the past week.  I hate taking off this much time, but I listened well as I didn't want to injure myself further.  I have to call the doctor today to tell

The Teal Pumpkin

Image
A few weeks before Halloween, I started to see some people talking about the Teal Pumpkin Project.  I did a little research and found out that it is for Food Allergy Awareness.  The gist of it is, you are supposed to paint a pumpkin teal, and then off both candy and non-food items to kids with allergies on Halloween.  Well I could absolutely get on board with that! Halloween is probably the most stressful holiday for a food allergy parent, so I was happy to do anything I could to help. First off, all the candy I bought to give out was peanut and nut free.  I put that on the sign I left when we were out.  I also had some gummy candy that was chocolate and dairy free as well.  I painted our pumpkin teal that morning, and wrote on it that we were an allergy friendly house.  I had picked up some small toys at the store and placed them in a bowl to hand out with a sign that said they were for kids with allergies. We were not really home most of the afternoon, but I hope that the toys were a

Halloween Recap

I'd have to say that this past Friday was my favorite Halloween ever.  For one, there was no hurricanes, blizzards, or power outages.  That along makes it a good holiday around these parts.  As the girls get older, they understand the holidays more and their excitement was absolutely contagious.  They had been talking about Halloween for weeks and could not wait  to go trick-or-treating! Skip took Friday off as it is one of the only holidays he can actually take off.  I was a little sad Emmy's school didn't let them dress up, but she was okay with it.  As soon as she got home, we dressed them both in their costumes and headed out! We have a great little neighborhood for trick-or-treating and the girls had an absolute blast.  As they're older now, they could go up to the houses themselves while Skip and I waited on the sidewalk...amazing! We were out until almost 5, then came home for dinner.  After we'd eaten we headed out again to visit my little sis and her husban
