This and That

Image
March is quickly taking the place of February as my least favorite month ever.  Yes, it is slightly  warmer and there's less snow on the ground, but it's so depressing that it's still not warm yet.  We better have the hottest summer on record just to make up for this. Just to add insult to injury, our shed blew apart in the high winds.  Sadly this has happened before during Hurricane Sandy.  Skip is less than thrilled about having to put it together again.  I'm pretty sure he fell asleep looking at houses in Florida. Skip and I got a date night this weekend thanks to my big sis.  We had a nice dinner, wandered around Barnes and Noble, and then ran some errands.  It was so nice to spend some time with him! Skip and Emmy had a special father/daughter Girl Scout square dance on Sunday.  They had such a great time and both looked adorable! I am still working on my book and getting things ready to send in when I'm ready to have it published.  This is what my home office

Favorite Workout Gear

Image
It's no secret that I love to work out.  I've been doing it consistently for about 16 years now, so I better like it!  Now, I'm no expert, but I thought I'd share some of my favorite workouts, clothes, and apps with you.  {This isn't sponsored and I'm not using any affiliate links...I just wanted to share what's worked for me.  Click right on the pictures to see where I got the pictures and where you can buy them} Clothes Nothing can derail a workout like ill-fitting clothes, or ones that ride up.  Sure, you can workout in any t-shirt and shorts, but I've found that specialized athletic clothes are much better for most activities.  Many people swear by Lululemon, but I've never tried them as they're out of my price range.  Here are some of the things I've found luck with. Old Navy has some great compression capris and tops.  They're comfortable and don't ride up!  I always check out they're clearance section and have been able to

"I don't want to be different"

Last night Skip put the girls to bed.  Once Charlie was asleep, he spent a little time with Emmy.    He read her another story and they told jokes, as is their routine when Skip's actually home for bedtime.  He was just about to leave when she started crying.  Apparently she was crying about her peanut allergy.  She told Skip that she doesn't want to be different any more.  She asked why she can't be normal like everyone else.   Break my heart! Skip managed to calm her down and she woke up this morning without another thought about it.  As kids do, she bounced back quickly.  But still, my heart hurts for my sweet girl. We try to make Emmy's life as 'normal' as possible, despite her allergy. Yes, she knows the seriousness of it and that she cannot ever have any peanuts.  She always makes sure to ask if something has peanuts in it.  She checks to make sure we have her epi-pen every time we leave the house.  But we don't let it rule our lives.  We still go out

Hey, It's Okay!

Today I'm linking up with Airing my Dirty Laundry for a little 'Hey, it's okay Tuesday!' It's okay: - that I want to cry every time I see the forecast.  More snow...more sub-freezing temperatures.  I fear winter will never end, and I'll have to spend all our money on our electric bill. - to only have three episodes left of House of Cards  and still not be sure if I like it.  This season is getting better, but it's still plenty weird. - to be eating my weight in sugar cookies regularly.  It's freezing outside...my body is just trying to make sure I have enough fat so I don't freeze to death.  It's a health thing. - to be really excited that Jared Leto cut his hair.  Yes, he had a gorgeous mane, but he looks so much better with short hair.   Jordan Catalano forever. - to be thoroughly confused as to how I hurt my shoulder running yesterday.  I could only do 2 miles as the pain became too bad.  I may even have to break out my sling today.  How does

March Goals

It's finally March...wahoo!!  Why does the shortest month of the year always seem the longest?  It probably has something to do with the fact it was the coldest February ever.   Awesome .  But now that that's over, hopefully the end is in sight {though it snowed again today...and will again later this week}. I really liked setting a few specific goals for February.  It helped focus my attention.  Let's see how I did! {one} Workout every day .  I was so close  but missed two days due to being sick.  So totally justified in my book.  I did push myself way more than I have recently, and found even when I'm tired or not feeling great, I can still get in a great workout. {two} Finish editing my book .  Yes!  Well, not completely done, but I edited it enough to share with some friends and family.  I'm starting to get some feedback now so I'll be back at it again. {three}  Go on one date night . Yup!  Skip and I got to go see Casablanca . {four} Read three books. I act
