Expectation vs Reality.

To keep up with fun thing for the girls to do while Emmy was on Easter break last week, I decided to be brave and take them to the local children's museum by myself last Wednesday.  We've been there a few times before with Emmy, and she always has a fabulous time.  We hadn't taken Charlie yet, but she's about the age Emmy was when we first took her, so I knew she'd have fun.  I knew it would be a little stressful running after the two of them alone, but I knew it would be worth it.  Plus I only have two kids, and people do stuff like this all the time with way more kids. In theory, this is what would have happened: The girls and I would have been up, dressed, and at the museum as soon as the doors opened.  We would run around and play for at least two and a half hours.  Yes, it would be a little struggle to keep an eye on both of them, but we would figure it out.  They would be so happy and it would tire them out.  We would then go out to a nice ...

The Emmy Doll

When Emmy started preschool in the fall, we were all so concerned about how she would do.  Would she fit in?  Would she make friends? Could she handle the curriculum?  After the first few days we realized not only was she going to be okay, but she was thriving .  She was excited to go every day, was making new friends, and learning so much.  Everything was good. After a few weeks though, we realized something was a little off about Charlie.  When Emmy was gone, Charlie seemed way fussier and whinier.  She spent a lot more time staring out the window.  It took us a little while to catch on, butt we quickly realized it was because Charlie missed her sister .  I thought she was too young to really let that bother her, but boy was I wrong.  It was totally heartwarming to see how much she loved Emmy, but at the same time, I couldn't really explain too much to her about Emmy being gone.  We tried to keep busy during those hours, but oth...

Santa Came to Town

Image
Thursday night, Santa came a little early to visit all the good girls and boys in my town.  Accompanied by the fire dept, it is a tradition we look forward to every year!  We dressed the girls up in their Christmas jammies and waiting patiently for the sirens and jingle bells.  Once the jolly man headed up our streets, the girls went crazy! {well more Emmy than Charlie} One of the 'elves' handed out candy canes and we danced to the blasting Christmas music.   What a great tradition this is...do you have something like this in your town?

Even during these trying times, the one thing that is always guaranteed to make me smile and forget all my troubles....my two sweet little girls.  As sad as I get over the baby phase pretty much being over at our house, I just LOVE the way these two interact right now.  Sure there are times Emmy gets upset if all the attention isn't on her, or if Charlie dares to touch one of her millions of precious horses, but the majority of the time they are the best of friends.  It makes my mom heart so happy to see how much they love each other.  I only hope their bond stays this way always. Two little girls means matching outfits!! Going for a drive together Backyard dance party Snacks and TV watching...check out Emmy holding Charlie's hand! Just ridin' a horse, NBD

A Day in the Life

Thirty Things #12: Describe a typical day in your life. This is actually a pretty tough question for me to answer since "typical" is not really in the vocabulary of a cop wife.  Since Skip's schedule switches between days and nights every week, and his days off change every week as well, we're all over the place. And that doesn't include the days he works a double shift.  So I'll describe a typical day when Skip works a 16 hour shift and it's just me and the girls all day. 7:00-8:00 - When the girls usually wake up.  I change diapers, brush teeth, etc. 8:00-8:30 - Both girls get sippies of milk and some breakfast...waffles, pancakes, cereal fruit..something like that 8:30-9:30 - Girls play in the house normally.  I try to do a little blogging, tidy up, get the dogs up and outside, make and drink lots and lots of coffee and get myself ready 9:30-12:00 Get the girls dressed...we then either play outside, go to the park, or run errands 12:00 - Lunch for both ...

I was very excited when we found out that Baby C was going to be another sweet baby girl.  Since we were only having two kids, we thought it would be wonderful if they were both the same sex.  Not only would it be much easier/cheaper for us...but I knew {or hoped} the two girls would life-long friends. So far, the transition of going from a one-kid family to a two-kid family has gone pretty smoothly over all.  Little M definitely shows interest and love in Baby C, without being too over the top.  And the other day, when Little M asked to snuggle with Baby C in my bed?  Well my heart pretty much just melted into a puddle right there.  I hope these two sweet girls stay friends for life.
