Mommy Musings

I was really excited leading up to last weekend.  My mom was coming up to stay with the girls Saturday night so Skip and I could go into the city.  We were going to meet up with some of my college friends to go see the Rockefeller Center tree, and then go out to dinner.  Skip had never seen the tree in person before {?!?!?!} so I was really excited to experience that with him. The first hiccup in our plans was the impending rain.  Not fun to stand outside in the pouring rain and stare at a tree.  The girls and I decided if it was too bad, then we'd just meet for dinner instead.  Problem solved. The next problem arose about 4:15 am Friday morning when Emmy suddenly came down with the stomach flu.  I thought we'd have to cancel our plans for sure.  But she was only sick for a few hours and improved greatly as the day went on.  So I bleached everything in sight and carried on with our plans. Skip and I recently got to attend the wedding of one of the cops he works with.  We celebrated with them the night they got engaged, and we had been looking forward to their wedding for months.  My mom came up for the night to stay with the girls, and because of that I was able to head out that morning and get a fresh haircut. Yay for not having to do my own hair that night!! I had bought this amazing dress from ThredUP a few months ago and knew it would be perfect for the evening.  And at only $10 it was definitely a steal!! We posed for what looked like prom photos and headed out! It was a fabulous  wedding and so great to spend time with a lot of Skip's co-workers.  They are all great guys and girls and I love getting to see them all together.  Plus any kid-free time spent with my husband is really special!

I have got a busy few days coming up in front of me!  Tomorrow Skip and I are taking Little M to the Imagination Movers Concert {OMG I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am to take her!} Then tomorrow night I'm heading down to Newark to pick up my friend B {the one we stayed with in Florida}.  I guess he missed us already as he is coming to spend the weekend with us!  We're also having a BBQ for him and 10 other of our friends on Friday.  Then my college bestie might be coming down to see me and the girls next week {!!!!!!!!!!!} So I am super excited for all these fun things but also slightly overwhelmed today with all the cleaning, laundry, food shopping and prepping I have to do today and tomorrow morning.  So all I can handle today is a little I Phone photo dump.  My posts for the next few days will be spotty at best, but look for the *cutest* video of my sweet M tomorrow! Tomorrow night I will not be doing this with my little girl. She will instead be spending the afternoon, evening, night, AND Friday morning with my big sis L.  Tomorrow Skip and I will be celebrating our five year anniversary {wahoo!!  Mushy, lovey dovey post to follow tomorrow} and in honor of the special day, we will be spending our first night away from Little M...sniff sniff.  I'm happy, excited, and thrilled to be spending almost 24 hours alone with the husband.  Something that has not happened since November 2008.  But I will not be going into this without just a little bit of sadness. I know Little M is in great hands, and I know she will have a wonderful afternoon, evening, and go down to sleep pretty easily since she has been put to bed by several different family members.  But for the past 20 months, I have always been there for her in the morning.  It's just a big step for this mommy! Yesterday was really a wonderful day. I started it off by going to get a manicure...thanks to my mom for watching Little M. Then I played with my little girl, had lunch, and put her down to nap. My baby sister surprised me and came over to babysit early so I could get ready without Little M under my feet. Skip came home at 3:30 and got ready too, and at 4:30 we headed out the door. Skip promised me that he would let me know where we were going as soon as we left. So as we got in the car and started pulling away, he put on the music in the car. I instantly recognized the music and gasped when I realized we were going to see this: PHANTOM OF TH OPERA ON BROADWAY!!!! I was ridiculously excited because it is my absolute favorite play. I saw it once in high school and just fell in love. Anyways, first we went to dinner at a local restaurant and then headed into the city. It was a pretty warm night and perfect to stroll around a little before the show. I was so excited for myself, ...

A few weeks ago my husband called me from work and told me to keep the night of April 14th open because he was taking me out on a surprise date night. He got a baby sitter lined up {thanks so much baby sis E!}. I have to be ready by 4:30 and can't wear jeans. That's all the info I have! I am soo excited though. I got my hair colored tonight {thanks L!} and am getting my nails done tomorrow morning. I promise to update you all on Thursday with all the great details! Feel free to leave me your guesses before that!

Thanks to all the good wishes and prayers the snow held off {in fact we still haven't gotten any!} and Skip and I were able to go on our date night! It was the best date I have ever been on. It felt like it did back when we were first dating and everything was new and exciting. It was just so much fun. Unfortunately I forgot to take some pictures of us all dressed up:( Sorry guys! First we went to dinner. I was *starving* by the time we got there, so I was glad we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. I started off with this... Then we split this as an appetizer {it is the sampler...we got the fried mozzarella and calamari}..... I had one of the new dishes for my main course and it was delicious!..... And I of course had to have this for dessert...it's my favorite!!!...... We had some time to kill before the movie started, so we just drove around where we used to live for a while...we used to do that all the time when we first got married, so it was really fun. Pending the snow {which better not get here until waaay after midnight} Skip and I are going on a date night tonight!!! A real one. A dinner and a movie on Friday night date night. I cannot even remember the last time this happened! I have been excited about it for weeks! Thanks to my baby sister and her boyfriend and their fabulous baby-sitting skills, we are going to dinner at the Olive Garden . {don't judge...that place is awesome!} Then we are headed to a late night showing of this I seriously cannot wait. It will be so nice to just spend a few hours together as husband and wife, and not as parents. {though we will miss Little M dearly!} Now if you'll excuse me I must go workout, shower, do my nails, hair, make-up, put on some HEELS{!!!} and get all ready for my man...oh yeah and keep on praying that no flakes touch down in northern Jersey until after midnight...thanks!
