The First Cut is the Deepest

Image
I think Emmy had her first little hair trim either just before, or just after she turned 1.  It was always falling in her eyes, so I had to trim it up a bit. She got her first real big girl hair cut just before she turned 2 {actually the day we took her was the day after I found out I was pregnant with Charlie!}  She was pretty good at sitting still, and was so good at the salon. I really am not a fan of bangs on my girls though, so I grew out Emmy's and refused to give them to Charlie.  So that pushed back the time I'd have to get her hair cut the first time.  Charlie's hair has always grown pretty fast though, so as we passed year one, then year two, now inching closer to year three, her hair grew pretty long.  And gorgeous  let me tell you.  Seriously, I have such hair envy of my kids.  Her hair was the perfect color with natural highlights, gorgeous wake-up with curls, and it even seemed naturally layered! The only downside to the length {it's...

Grow Hair Grow!!

I'm going to take the day on the ol' blog here to be vain.  I like looking good, as many people do.  I workout, try to wear some cute clothes, and spend as much time as I'm able {which with two kids isn't much at all} to do my make-up every day.  As much as I shouldn't care what other people thing of me, I do.  But I also do it for myself because it makes me feel good, and gives me a little more confidence.  However there is one thing that keeps disappointing me over and over again.  And there's really very little I can do about it.  My hair .  I used to have really pretty hair.  Long, blond layered hair.  It was always something I was pretty proud of. Can I please be 21 again?!?! But then years of bleaching {I'm not actually a natural blond} and straightening really took their toll and my hair was breaking off left and right.  The ends were completely damaged and my friend L {a lice...

Tips and Tricks for Fixing Damaged Hair

Image
As I explained previously, the reason I dyed my hair brown {and cut it short back in October} was because it was pretty fried.  10+ years of bleaching the hell out of it will do that to you.  So I'm using this summer as a "hair do-over" if you will.  I want to grow it long again and the only way to do that is to take extra special care of it.  I'm going to share with you a few of the tips/tricks I have found out so far.  And please let me know if you have any other ideas! {one} The big and simplest thing I'm doing is not touching.  No more coloring {this color is my natural hair color} no blow drying, no straightening, no curling iron on a daily basis.  I only will blow dry and straighten now if it's a special occasion.  I wear it down for bed, so the elastic won't pull at it.  My hair may look like crap all the time, but it'll pay off in the long run! {two} Vitamins.  I've stayed on my prenatal vitamins {no more babies still they're jus...

2 on Tuesday - Hair Products

Image
I am also linking up with Andrea today for 2 on Tuesday! It is such a good topic this week I just had to join in!  Today's topic is: What are your two favorite hair products. Okay now the first thing you need to know about me, is that I am no longer a natural blond....I'll let that sink in a minute.  I had blond hair as a kid, but it slowly got darker as I got older.  But I really hate dark hair on me, so I've been going light, pretty much ever since.  And well, that much bleach on a person's hair can really wreck it.  Hence the short hair right now...I had to just chop off all the dead ends and start again.  So I am constantly looking for great conditioners to help repair the damage.  Alternatively, if you do not want to spend money on hair treatment products, a cosmetology school  can teach you how to make homemade hair treatments using egg, sour cream, and lemon juice. The two I have found to work best so far are these: Pantene beautiful lengt...

Chopped

Image
I can't believe I forgot to post this on here, but two weeks ago I got my hair cut....short.  Like really, really short.  Now I've never really liked my hair short.  I'm definitely more of a long-hair kinda girl.  But I've treated my hair pretty badly the past few years with all the bleaching, blow-drying, straightening, and whatnot.  The ends were totally fried.  I had still only been getting trims though to try and preserve the length.  But two weeks ago I decided I just needed to start over.  My friend L is a hairdresser and came over to do the chop.  I asked her to cut off all the dead ends, as short as it needed to be.  Here is the end result. crappy phone pic She gave me such a wonderful cut, but it is definitely taking some getting used to....I can't even put it up!  But it is sooooooo much healthier than it has ever been!  So I just have to baby the crap out of it and hopefully it will start growing soon!!!

I Will Fight You Pregnancy Hormones

Let's play a little game called "What's wrong with this picture?" No it's not that my bedroom is ridiculously messy. {though that is true..not all the time though, I swear!} If it's that I still sleep with a stuffed bunny, you'd be wrong too. {though that is also true...he makes a great pillow!} Yes I know I look much further along than 17 weeks pregnant, but that's not it either. Give up?  Check out my hair.  It's brown.  As in opposite of blond, brown.  Now I know most of you will be utterly shocked when I tell you this, but I am not a natural blond.  I was as a kid, but once puberty hit my strands began to darker.  But I revolted.  I have a slight obsession with love being blond.  And I have been {with help obviously} for the last 10 years or so, with the exception of my pregnancy with Little M. I didn't color my hair at all with my first pregnancy.  I had a slight concern about the chemicals, and thought it would be good to give my hair ...
