Easter Recap

Image
I'd really like to get back to regular blogging and sharing parts of our lives.  So what better way to jump back in than with a little Easter recap! We kicked off the festivities on Saturday with the town egg hunt.  We'd never gone before, so I was excited to see what it was all about.  Before we left Emmy grabbed some plastic eggs for her and Charlie to pose with in some pictures...that's my girl! OMG.  I had no idea how vicious egg hunts can be.  All the eggs on the ground were gone in about 3 seconds.  And that included the few randoms that Emmy spotted, but PARENTS snagged up before she could grab them.  Fantastic.  Love the people in my town. Thankfully they had a whole box of extra eggs, so the girls were able to grab a few.  We then waited online to see the Easter Bunny.  I'd never taken them before because 1. he's creepy and 2. I hate how Easter is becoming like Christmas.  But the guy was right there, so I figured why not. ...

An Untypical Christmas

Christmas Day this year was one of the most relaxing we've ever had.  Skip was originally supposed to work the afternoon/evening shift, but last minute was able to take off.  I can't tell you how amazing it was to have him home!  We decided to spend the day with just our little family of four. First, we woke up super early to open gifts.  The girls were amazed with all that Santa brought, and both got the one gift they really wanted. Once the house was sufficiently covered in wrapping paper, we all got ready and headed out to church.  {I won't tell you how long it's been since we went to church on Christmas as a family} and both girls were really well behaved. We came home for naps and playing with new toys!  Skip and I were more than happy to pass out on the couch for a bit...Christmas as a parent is exhausting!! We made the girls some noodles for dinner, and then once they were asleep, we ordered some Chinese and watched a movie...like all good Catholics ...

Obligatory Easter Post

What would the day after a holiday look like without a million blog recaps!?!?  I don't want to know.  In all honesty, I really love seeing how everyone spent their holiday, so keep the recaps coming! It has been a loooong  few days around here {which I will blog about it more detail over the week} so I was looking forward to a relaxing Easter.  We had been invited to spend it with each of our families, but as Skip was working 1- 11pm, we felt it best and easiest just to stay home as a little family of four.  I knew it would be a tough afternoon being without Skip, and it being the first Easter without my Grandma, but we would make it work the best we could. We had colored our eggs Saturday morning, and so everything was good to go by the time Skip got home from work late Saturday night.  He and I put out the Easter baskets and hid all the eggs around the house. The girls were up bright and early Sunday morning, and very excited to head downstairs.  Th...

The Start of Lent

I've only talked about religion once on the blog before , and that was around this time last year.  I talked about how I would be avoiding telling Emmy the real reason behind Easter, and how I commemorate Good Friday every year. Now what is it about the Easter season that makes me want to blog about it?  First off, some of it is that I am fascinated by the way other religions celebrate things.  It seems that Christmas is pretty much the same for everyone, but Easter practices vary considerably from religion to religion. As a Catholic, Lent is a very important time for us.  Today I will go to mass and get ashes on my forehead.  I will abstain from meat today, and all Fridays during Lent.  I will "give up" something for the 40 days as a penance to God for my sins. I was obviously very naive when I was a kid, and just assumed every religion practiced similarly to ours.  As I got older, I learned that there are a lot of tiny differences, as well as the big...

The Coloring of the Eggs

Image
I was feeling pretty meh  about Easter this year.  So there were no decorations put out and all the prep was done totally last minute.   But no matter what, we had to  make sure to decorate some eggs!  I didn't feel like wrangling Charlie this year { sorry babe}  but Emmy has done it the past few years and simply loves  it.   This was the first year though that after we set everything up, we let her do all the work!  She could not have enjoyed it more. Listening to the fizzy noise the tablets make when dropped in vinegar Oh the sass Showing off her work Finished product So pleased with herself! So do you decorate eggs with your kids?  Do they do most of the work or do you get in on the fun as well?
