10 Years

Image
10 years ago I spent the day at my Grandma's house. 10 years ago today we were celebrating my cousin's return from his 15 month deployment to Iraq. 10 years ago today I drove up to my boyfriend's house to pick him up.  He had surprised me two days before...5 days of leave before he had to deploy to Iraq. 10 years ago today I was confused when he met me at my car, and brought me around to the back yard. 10 years ago today I left his house a fiance, because when he asked to spend forever with him "yes" was the only answer I needed to give. 10 years ago today we celebrated with family and friends. 10 years ago today my intense joy was marked by just a touch of sadness as I wondered if this man I wanted to spend my life with would ever come back home again. 10 years ago today at 21 years old, I said yes as Skip slipped a ring on my finger.  I had never been so sure of anything in my life. Skip and I didn't have a typical engagement most people seem to have these d...

A Decade Gone By

Image
Saturday August 24th marked 10 years since Skip and I met.  Obviously that was not a date for celebrating this year as it was the day we buried my Grandma.  But I couldn't let this special anniversary pass without a mention. The bench where we met I've now known Skip for 10 years.  TEN YEARS!  That's an entire decade of being by his side.  For those of you who are new, here's a quick recap of the night we met: I met Skip August 24, 2003 at my best friend's house.  She was dating Skip's best friend, and they strategically placed us together in her backyard.  The first thing I liked about him was his piercing blue eyes and the fact that he smoked the same cigarettes as me {yes we used to smoke..I blame it on the young age}  We talked for hours that night and the conversation never lulled.  I can't tell you that I knew I would marry him that night, because I didn't.  But I did know I felt some sort of connection with him and knew he woul...

Happily Ever After

Image
From the time we're born, it seems as though we're programed to always be working towards the next thing.  Middle school is prepping you for high school.  High school prepping you for college, military service, or a job.  Moving out, marriage, a career path, children.  Everyone has their own path to follow, but the overlying idea is that we should be always working towards the next thing, our next goal and milestone. I was no exception to this.  My whole life I knew I wanted to graduate college, become a teacher, get married, and have babies.  Simple really.  And this past June completed those dreams for me.  I was a married, college grad, former-teacher, mother to two little girls.  We were settled in a house we can live in for many years to come and two fur babies running around completed the picture.  Everything I had ever wanted has come true. But as I thought about it, I got kind of nervous.  I only know life as working towards...

Our Love Story

I am so excited to be linking up with Becky today to share Skip's and my love story!  Here are the questions Becky asked: 1. How long have you and your significant other been together? The day we started dating Skip and I have been together for 8 1/2 years 2. How did you meet? {What's your "love" story?} We met back in August of 2003.  His best friend from high school and my best friend from high school were both dating.  One night Skip was over her house and describing who is perfect girl would be.  K said she looked right at him and said, "I know her!"  They then invited me over the next night to hang out {I had no idea it was a semi set-up}  We hit it off that night...all hug out a few nights later....had our first date the night after that, and even though he took me shooting I still wanted to see him again!!  It was rough in the beginning because I moved back to college in Connecticut two days later and Skip was in the police academy here in Jer...
