Running Advice

I have a question for all you runners out there {especially my big sis L since I know you have had these before!}  I started running last spring {gasp}  I'm not that great at it, but can do three miles pretty easily, albeit slow and pathetic looking. Anyways, I didn't run all winter since I *hate* the cold and it was ridiculously snowy this year.  I got back into it easier than I thought this spring.  However the past few weeks my shins and ankle have been hurting.  I had shin splints back in high school, and while they are not as bad as then, it's still decently painful.  And I have no idea what's going on with my ankle. So any advice on what I should do?  I don't want to give up running for a while, because I really like it and it is so nice out.  I've tried just doing interval running {three days ago I did a 4.2 mile run alternating running and walking ever .10 of a mile} but my shins still hurt even after that.  Any advice would be welcom...

Shred It Up

I did it! I completed the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred!!! I'm pretty proud of myself for finishing it. Some days it really took some planning to get in the workout, but I realized that I really do have time to work out almost every day. That's one of the best things about this workout...it is only 20 minutes long. I may not always be able to do a an hour long workout, but I can definitely do 20 minutes. I also really liked planning my days off. I took one day off between level 1 and 2, and again between level 2 and 3. Because I planned to take those days off they felt like treat. Before, if I didn't work out one day, I felt bad about myself. So from now on I am going to try and stick with the workout 10 days straight, one day off routine. I have definitely seen some great results from the Shred {I promise to post pictures this week!} but I definitely don't think of my workouts as over. I really love the Shred as a jumping off point. I saw some great re...

Shred It Up!

So after hearing a lot of good things from all of you and my real life friends, I jumped on the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred bandwagon a couple weeks ago and I am LOVING it! Okay, so I don't love actually doing the workouts, but I love how I feel after. I did 10 days of Level 1 and then took one day off {the day of the incident my husband had at work...I had more important things going on that day} I started Level 2 the next day and just finished up day 3 of that tonight. Level 2 is definitely much harder than 1, but thankfully I have not been too sore yet. I am already noticing more definition in my legs and arms. I would probably notice some more changes if I could just put down the brownies, but I'm still working on that:) I'm hoping to do 10 days total of Level 2 and then immediately start 10 days of Level 3. I wish I had taken a 'before' picture, but I forgot. I will post an 'after' though! I love that the workouts are only 20 minutes. Even...

I Wish This Could Last Forever

Yesterday was a really good day.  I actually got a decent amount of sleep and the baby was happy and giggly all day.  Thanks to some great advice I received on my last blog (thanks ladies!) I was feeling much better about everything.  Also, it was 60* yesterday!!!!  The warm weather always puts me in a good mood.  It was such a nice break from the below freezing temps we've been suffering through.  And it was wonderful to finally see all those mounds of snow we've been staring at since before Christmas start to melt.  I took the baby on a nice long walk in the afternoon, with a stop off at Grandma and Grandad's house.  I've been able to walk her every day for the past 5 days.  It's been wonderful for both of us.  It's good for her to get some fresh air and the motion of the carriage always lulls her to sleep.  And I love being able to get out of the house with her and get in some exercise (especially since I can't seem to drop thes...
