Changing my Attitude

Do you ever have those weeks that you're not quite sure you're going to survive, at least not with all your brain cells intact?  Well I'm currently in the middle of one right now. Our whole family has been rotating germs and sickness for the past two weeks.  We've dealt with colds, sinus infections, and the croup.  Last night Charlie woke up screaming from 9-11:30, almost every hour after that, and during nap time today, so she's probably coming down with something again too. My kids are at an age, Charlie specifically, where whining is their favorite form of communication.  And when they're sick, they're whining seems to explode tenfold.  Throw in me not feeling well, and the whining seems 10x more annoying.  So we're all just whining, annoyed snotty messes over here. The trouble is that when the girls are sick, they obviously just want their mom to snuggle them.  Which is something I love , don't get me wrong, but I would also love to ...

The Heart of a Child

I hate that Emmy has had to deal with so much death in the past year.  It's almost too much for Skip and I to handle, and we're adults.  Thankfully though, my sweet girl has handled it with so much grace and understanding. Braddock's death hit her really hard, but since then she has come to such a place of peace when someone dies.  As she said to me last Tuesday, "Mommy, why are you sad?  Grandma the Great is in heaven, watching over us with Mimi".  At the repass at our house after the burial, Emmy was talking with my grandma's neighbor and best friend.  Emmy gave her a big hug and said "I'm sorry your friend died.  But she's can see us because she's a big beautiful angel with wings."  The waterworks among the adults began again. And then Monday morning, Emmy was awake before Skip and I.  She was playing in her room with some old birthday cards and crayons.  She came in to our room to give us the cards she had drawn pictur...

Quotable Thursday

There are some things going on right now...heavy things...things that will change us all.  So I'm not sure how much I'll be writing in the coming weeks {though I do have a few reviews I'll be scheduling!}  I might not be here at all or I might be writing silly nonsense every day to get my mind off things.  I just don't know.  I would love your prayers for my family during this time.  For today I leave you with a few of my favorite quotes.... Surviving the Meantime

The past few months have been a pretty rough "season" for my little family.  Death, sickness, some big changes, we're going through it all.  And like my mom said , it's not going to last forever.  We'll come through this all in the end.  But "the meantime" sure is kicking our butts. Because Skip and I are on edge a lot, we're shorter and snappier with each other.  We struggle to get everything done, give the girls lots of attention, be there for each other, and find time to be alone.  There are big things weighing on our hearts and so the every day things seem even more challenging. I've gone through tough periods in my life before, and was always able to figure out how to navigate through the tough times.  If alone I'd yell and throw things.  I'd run until my legs ached.  I'd lay in bed sobbing for hours.  I'd sleep as much as I wanted.  I'd call my best friend and talk for hours. Getting married changed the way I had to surv...

My Poor Mr. B

Image
Last Wednesday Skip brought both our dogs into the vet for their regular check-ups and shots.  Shiba is fine {though she's put on a few too many pounds} but the vet was a little concerned about Mr. B.  He had lost 6 lbs in six months, without us trying to get him to lose weight {he had had a few bouts of what we thought was a stomach bug, but had been much better recently}.  The vet also felt a mass in his stomach. I of course was totally freaking out.  But the vet just said to try and maybe start to get his weight up a bit and he'd check him next week.  Unfortunately Mr. B had a rough weekend...lots of throwing up and he didn't eat for three days.  So when we took him back to the vet two days ago, he had lost 4 lbs more, and the mass was still there.  So the vet kept him overnight and did an ultra sound yesterday. When I went to go pick him up, the vet confirmed what we were worried about...Mr. B has a cancerous tumor in his intestines.  It's pre...
