Changing my Attitude

Do you ever have those weeks that you're not quite sure you're going to survive, at least not with all your brain cells intact?  Well I'm currently in the middle of one right now.

Our whole family has been rotating germs and sickness for the past two weeks.  We've dealt with colds, sinus infections, and the croup.  Last night Charlie woke up screaming from 9-11:30, almost every hour after that, and during nap time today, so she's probably coming down with something again too.

My kids are at an age, Charlie specifically, where whining is their favorite form of communication.  And when they're sick, they're whining seems to explode tenfold.  Throw in me not feeling well, and the whining seems 10x more annoying.  So we're all just whining, annoyed snotty messes over here.

The trouble is that when the girls are sick, they obviously just want their mom to snuggle them.  Which is something I love, don't get me wrong, but I would also love to be able to go to the bathroom or eat a bite of something without them losing their minds. And cleaning?  They definitely don't want me leaving them on the couch to do that.  Which is probably where a lot of the germ sharing is coming in to play.

Throw on top of that the stress of Skip having to respond to the shooting the other night which resulted in too much anxiety and not enough sleep for me.  And the icing on the top of the cake?  It's freezing outside.  Which makes me cranky and want to do nothing but lay in bed watching Scandal all day.

Thankfully I have had a few moments here and there to get a workout in, which is the best thing for both my mind and body.  But I also have been surviving on creamer, coffee, diet coke, take-out, and more cookies than I'd like to admit.  So despite all the working out my pants are definitely fitting a little tighter these days.

I'm giving myself this time right now to write this post and vent about everything that's going on.  But once I hit publish, I'm done.  I'm done whining myself and complaining about this season we're in.  There are things going on that I have no control over, but there are some I do have control over.  And those things have to change....now.  At the very least for my own sanity.  So I'm going to chug some water, vacuum the stairs, and find some more fun, low-key activities for the girls to do besides watch TV.  I can't change the weather or the never ending sickness.  But until I wave the white flag, I can change my attitude.

What are your tips to get back into the groove when life keeps knocking you down?

  1. My daughter is very whiny when she is sick or when she does not get her nap. Everything is so dramatic with her! My husband is really whiny too when he is sick. Momma doesn't get to be whiny thought! Hope you all feel better soon.
