Ice Cream Before Dinner

Image
We've been trying to cram as much summer fun into every day we can this year, though sometimes it's hard. But a few weeks ago, we had what my girls thought was the best!day!ever! We started off the day at a local farm.  There is a petting zoo that the girls are obsessed with.  We got to feed them and pet them {Well they did...I'm not so into the animals} We then picked up a few things in the store for lunch. Once Skip had gone to work, the girls and I walked down to a playground about half a mile away.  Emmy was excited because I let her run ahead on the sidewalk. Afterwards we came home to make dinner.  But just as I was going to start getting ready, we heard the song of the ice cream truck.  I hadn't let the girls get any all summer, but figured, why not?  So I grabbed some singles and we ran outside barefoot to get some ice cream.  And yes, I let them have it before dinner.  You're only a kid once, right? It was a simple day, but another exampl...

Summer > Fall

Image
Sigh, it's September...which apparently I wouldn't have known yesterday except for all the amazing people posting about it on social media.  Am since when did fall become the 'it' season?  Is that what happens when you get older?  Is it immature to get excited about summer?  Not that I care..I will be a summer girl forever.  I just seem to be the only one this days. Anyways, now that I'm done with that rant...I'm hoping to get in a few posts this week recapping our summer.  It truly has been one of the best of my life.  The weather was hot and dry, and we took advantage of every moment.  We had our fair share of lazy days, and also got a lot done.  We've been to the pool, the beach, carnivals, and pretty much every park within a 20 mile radius.  Here's a photo dump of some of what we've been up to. So you can have you PSL's, boots, and scarves.  I'll be here rocking my bikini and cut off shorts for as long as possible.  The gir...

Father's Day Recap

Image
Father's Day was a pretty low-key affair this year.  Unfortunately we mixed up our dates and forgot to have Skip take off for it.  So we only had him home in the morning with us.  The girls and I tried to make the most of it by letting Skip sleep in and giving him breakfast in bed. After a few presents and a little relaxing, poor guy had to leave for work, and the girls and I spent the rest of the day playing outside. Skip was off the next day though, so we packed up and headed down the shore to spend time with my dad.  It was a perfect  beach day and we were all sad to leave the sun and sand. I love getting to celebrate the two amazing dads in my life.  And if this is a preview of what are summer is going to look like, then count me in!

Carnivals and Street Fairs

Image
One of the things I love most about summer is all the fun activities in our area.  There is never a shortage of street fairs, farmer's markets, and carnivals.  For one of the most populated areas in the country, it helps bring a small-town feeling.  So we try to go to as many of them as we can. We recently went to a carnival at my old elementary school.  It was so weird to walk around the same parking lot I had when I was 13, now with my own kids. Emmy was amazed that I had gone there, and loved all the stories I told her.  The highlight of the night was running into a friend of mine who went through school with me there.  We've been friends since kindergarten, and sometimes I just can't believe how much time has passed since then. The girls rode rides, played games, and of course topped off the evening with some ice cream! About a week later, our town had its annual street fair.  The main street closes off to traffic and is filled with all sorts of fu...

Day of Love

Image
I'm pretty sure this was the best Valentine's Day I ever had.  Skip was supposed to work, but he was able to take a vacation day and stay home with us.  We all got up together and went downstairs for a few gifts.  Skip picked up some giant balloons and I had gotten them some new pj's and bath towels....and of course a few pieces of candy! Skip and I had decided not to exchange anything, but apparently we're not so good at following the rules.  I got Skip some chocolates and he got me the most beautiful bouquet of tulips...,my favorite flower! We relaxed and hung out together for the rest of the morning.  Since our sitter was unavailable that weekend, Skip and I were going to take the girls out to dinner.  However, as is the norm this winter, we were supposed to get some snow that night, so we decided to go out to lunch instead. We went to T.G.I.Fridays because we're classy like that.  It was such  an enjoyable experience...which as the mom of two ...
