Bye Bye Paci

Image
So as I mentioned briefly on Friday, we had to break Charlie of her pacifiers this weekend.  By society and doctor standards, she is really too old to have one at two and a half.  But that isn't why we had to take them away.  For the past few weeks, Charlie has been chewing on the nipple part of the pacifier. And twice in the past ten days, she has managed to chew the tops off the nipple.  We've caught it both times, but may not always be as lucky.  So the paci had to go. I waited after naptime Saturday {mainly for my own sanity} and the just cut the top off her remaining pacifier.  I didn't make a big deal out of it, or even draw attention to it.  Just cut it and left it off to the side. It was a little over an hour before Charlie even noticed it was cut.  When she brought it to me and said it was broken, I just said yes it was, and left it at that.  She didn't seem too broken up about it. Fast forward to bedtime.  As she was gathering ...

A Breath of Fresh Air

The past few days have been pretty rough on me.  I've been sick and Skip has been working so much I practically forgot he lives here.  Yesterday afternoon was the last big push as Skip is finally off today and tomorrow.  But even though the end was in sight, I was struggling yesterday.  On top of being sick, I pulled a muscle in my neck, and had a migraine that just wouldn't quit.  And that lovely time from 4:00 till bedtime was just beginning. But rather than let the girls whines get to me, I knew I needed a change of scenery to shake things up for a bit.  So we quick put on our shoes, and I grabbed my big girl camera as we headed out to the backyard.  It was warm....breezy...and the lightening was just perfect.  It was exactly what we all needed to get through the rest of the day. Sometimes all you need is a breath of fresh air.

How-to Survive the Newborn Days

This is a guest post I shared on Pam's blog recently, but I wanted to make sure to have it on here as well.  Pam had asked me to share some tips I had for new moms....and this is what I came up with!   As a mom to two kids, I'm obviously an expect on babies.  Hahahahahaha. Yeah right.  I don't even think Mrs. Duggar would call herself an expert.  But I do think I have some great tips to pass on to all you soon-to-be and new moms out there.  These are some more real life tips...not something you'll find in What to Expect. {one} Invest in some larger than your normal size clothes to wear once you bring that sweet baby home.  You don't be able to fit into your old clothes yet, and I tried to avoid still wearing maternity clothes post-delivery.  But some jeans in one {or two or three if you're me} sizes up from your normal size, will actually make you feel a bit better about yourself. {two} Fill up your DVR, or pick out a new series to watch on Ne...

*Mom Tip*

Picture this scene: It's late at night... you're sleep deprived... you hear a kid crying... you stumble into their room and pick them up without thinking twice. EXCEPT IT'S THE WRONG KID.  You just woke up the sweetly sleeping child, while the other one continues to cry for you. Now you have not one, but two kids up needed your attention.   And you have no one to blame but yourself. Learn from my mistakes.   Always check the monitor or listen at the door before you go in to check on a crying child.   Always.
