Photo Friday

I'm so far behind on things I want to blog about, but all I can manage today is a few pictures of my sweet girls. A few weeks ago, we got Emmy's school picture sent home.  It was absolutely adorable as always. If you'll notice, we did not get one for Charlie.  Apparently she's very particular about who takes her picture, and wanted nothing to dow with it at school. I was a little sad to not have her sweet little face captured, so instead, I snapped a few pictures this morning.  First we got a few outtakes: But then she warmed up and I got a few keepers! Couldn't leave out big sis... And I absolutely love these ones!

Running Buddy

Image
Emmy is one of the biggest cheerleaders I have when it comes to my running.   She always asks me my mileage as soon as I walk in the door.   Last year she and I ran once together, only ¼ of a mile before she got tired.   And this summer I promised her we’d go out again. She had me put some music on my old iPhone that she has {Pitch Perfect soundtrack and Taylor Swift}, put on her sneakers and headphones, and we headed out!   She made sure to have me turn on my Nike+ app so we’d know how far we went.   I followed her lead of when she wanted to run, and when she wanted a walking break. We did a loop around the neighborhood of a whole mile!   Which when you’re six is practically a marathon.   She was SO excited to tell Skip and Charlie about it, and immediately hit the shower after.   She smiled later that night when she said her legs hurt from running.   We haven’t gotten out since, but I definitely need to make it a priority! I love my little ...

Yellow Belt

Image
For about two years now, Emmy has been asking us to do 'kung fu'.  This all stems from her watching 'Kung Fu Panda' years ago on repeat.  I was more than happy to indulge her, but not while she was also doing dance.  She does ballet and Daisies during the year, and I don't want to over schedule her. But this summer we found an opportunity for a tai kwon do summer class and signed her right up.  It was 16 classes in all, and Emmy absolutely shined.  I'm not just saying that, the teacher actually told me she was the best student. She learned discipline and working towards a goal.  At the last class, she was the only student to show up {true story!} and the only one who had showed up for every class. So the teacher ran through a routine with Emmy, and had her break a board. Then he tied on her new yellow belt!  I could not have been prouder of her.  She worked SO hard and was rewarded for it. We left the decision of whether to continue tai kwon do or...

First Grade

Image
My sweet little baby headed off to first grade this morning!  I cannot believe how big she's gotten. She could barely sleep last night, she was so excited.  I have never met a child who loves school more than my Emmy. This is the first year we didn't get to walk her to her classroom.  We just dropped her by the main door and in she went. This is her fourth year at this school, so we're veteran parents at this point. But I would be lying if I said my heart didn't lurch in my throat as I hugged her goodbye.  It's never easy to let someone else take care of your kid. But as every year, she will shine at school.  She'll make new friends and learn so much. And hey, at least I didn't cry this year! Now I can't promise the same won't happen on Thursday for Charlie's first day!

Ballerina Girl

Image
Last year was Emmy's first year in dance.  However, do to some unfortunate rescheduling, we were in Disney for her recital last year and had to miss it. So you knew I was going to do everything in my power to go this year!  It was actually a tough yeah for Emmy with dance.  Last year was a combination ballet/tap, and it was a little more fun and carefree.  This year she was in ballet only, and it was a much more structured program.  And honestly, Emmy was not happy about it the first few weeks.  She didn't want to be in a class that regimented...she wanted more fun.  But I felt like it was important to stick with something once she had committed.  Next year she could do what she wants, but this year she had to finish ballet. She fought me the first few months, but then really began to blossom.  She started to make friends {which is normally easy for her, but most of the girls were older} and find her groove.  It's tough for Emmy to sit s...

Goodbye Kindergarten

Image
It was a big day around here yesterday.  Emmy finished up her last day of kindergarten!  {they don't call it graduating at her school}.  This has probably been the toughest year for her.  There was homework every day, mandatory computer time at home, and she dealt with a teacher change in the middle of the year.  Her first teacher had a baby in the winter, and went on maternity leave for a few weeks.  Thankfully the teacher who filled in for her was fabulous, but it has been a lot of adjustments for Emmy.   Her class had a special ceremony at school we all got to go to.  Thankfully Skip was actually off for it!  They all had lines for their play about the gingerbread man and sang a whole bunch of songs.  It was adorable.  They did receive certificates from the priest.  I didn't cry, but I may have been able to picture her doing this a few years from now at her 8th grade graduation. And I realized just how quickly that will come...
