Yellow Belt

For about two years now, Emmy has been asking us to do 'kung fu'.  This all stems from her watching 'Kung Fu Panda' years ago on repeat.  I was more than happy to indulge her, but not while she was also doing dance.  She does ballet and Daisies during the year, and I don't want to over schedule her.

But this summer we found an opportunity for a tai kwon do summer class and signed her right up.  It was 16 classes in all, and Emmy absolutely shined.  I'm not just saying that, the teacher actually told me she was the best student.

She learned discipline and working towards a goal.  At the last class, she was the only student to show up {true story!} and the only one who had showed up for every class. So the teacher ran through a routine with Emmy, and had her break a board.

Then he tied on her new yellow belt!  I could not have been prouder of her.  She worked SO hard and was rewarded for it.

We left the decision of whether to continue tai kwon do or ballet this fall up to Emmy.  She chose ballet for now, though is interested in a tai kwon do summer class.

Overall it was such a great experience and I'm so glad she did it!

  2. My brother did tae kwon do from the time he was three years old until he graduated 8th grade. He earned his black belt too! I was so so proud of him. It really is a wonderful thing and teaches them so much, especially with discipline and respect. I am glad Emmy gets the chance to try all these amazing things and find what makes her happy.
