The Emmy Doll

When Emmy started preschool in the fall, we were all so concerned about how she would do.  Would she fit in?  Would she make friends? Could she handle the curriculum?

After the first few days we realized not only was she going to be okay, but she was thriving.  She was excited to go every day, was making new friends, and learning so much.  Everything was good.

After a few weeks though, we realized something was a little off about Charlie.  When Emmy was gone, Charlie seemed way fussier and whinier.  She spent a lot more time staring out the window.

It took us a little while to catch on, butt we quickly realized it was because Charlie missed her sister.  I thought she was too young to really let that bother her, but boy was I wrong.  It was totally heartwarming to see how much she loved Emmy, but at the same time, I couldn't really explain too much to her about Emmy being gone.  We tried to keep busy during those hours, but other than that I wasn't sure what else to do.

Enter Skip.  The man was born to be a girl dad, that's for sure.  He felt so bad about Charlie being sad, racking his brain to come up with a solution.

Well one day when I was out running errands, he figured it out.  I came home and found him and Charlie playing with this...

Yes, that's a tiny little Emmy doll that Skip made for Charlie.  Slightly creepy, but really the sweetest thing ever.  And the best part?  Charlie loved it

She started carrying it around with her and playing with it when Emmy was off at school.  It really helped with the transition.

Now that the school year is almost over, Charlie has gotten used to {but still isn't too happy about} Emmy being gone in the mornings.  She doesn't really play with the Emmy doll much anymore, but it really helped with the early transition!

Has anyone else experienced something like this with siblings?  What did you do?
