Fitness Friday - Staying Fit During the Holidays
I love that my Fitness Friday post coincided with the day after Thanksgiving. What better time to refocus your fitness goal than the day after stuffing yourself silly!
Today is the perfect day to jump on the fitness train or push yourself a little more at the gym. In fact, my gym is offering the best Black Friday deal. Add a family member for a one time fee, and they enjoy no monthly payments for life! Skip took advantage and now we can't wait to workout together.
Staying fit during the holidays can be a real challenge with all the delicious food, parties, and way less time to workout. But over the years I have found it is totally do-able. Here are some of the tips I've picked up over the years.
- Strive to maintain during the holidays. Losing weight is hard under the best circumstances...throw in cookie parties and candy at every turn, and it's almost impossible. Don't beat yourself up if the scale doesn't move down. But definitely celebrate if it doesn't move up!
- Don't deprive yourself. If you say that you're not going to eat any holiday sweets, you'll find yourself hiding in the kitchen binging on whatever you can find one night. There's nothing wrong with eating your favorite holiday meals. Just make sure to keep the portions small!
- If I'm going to splurge, I make sure it's not on something I can get any time of the year. There are so many cakes, cookies, side dishes that are holiday-specific...why waste your splurging on french fries!
- Make workouts a priority. This one is huge for me. Not only is there an abundance of decedent food, but the holiday season can be very stressful and busy! I have found the times when I don't think I have time to workout, are the times I need it the most. Yes, you will have to make sacrifices to make it happen. I went to the gym yesterday morning before lunch. Was I bummed to leave Skip and the girls for a bit? Absolutely. But my health has to be a priority as well. And you don't have to do anything crazy. Take a walk, do a workout DVD, it's completely fine if it's only 30 minutes! Get those endorphins pumping and clear your head for a bit.
And just think...don't you want a head start on your New Year's Resolution??
Those are tips I've accumulated over the years on how to stay fit during the holidays. What are your tips?? Come link up!!
