Life as a Four Year Old

I still can't believe my dear sweet baby Emmy is four years old already!  It has been so wonderful watching her grow from newborn to infant to toddler to kid.  There is no squishy babieness or clumsy toddlerness left in her.  She is all little girl now.

But to be honest?  I'm really not sad that she's not a baby anymore.  Because this age?  So so fun!  These days we have actual conversations and can just hang out.  She has opinions and wants.  She can really play with us.  She sings and dances all over the house.  Emmy's like this awesome little person who hangs out with us all day.

Now do we have our rough moments?  Oh yes.  And in those moments I realize just how much Emmy is like me.  Picky eater...remembers everything...quick temper..stubborn..needs things to be just so in her room before she goes to bed.  But there are also a lot of wonderful things about her that she gets from me.  Her love of all things girlie, dancing, make-up, and nail polish.   Like me she gives kisses and hugs freely and loves fiercely.

Emmy definitely has some Skip-like qualities as well.  Her inability to sit still, her love of singing and TV.  Like Skip, she loves fishing and going on adventures.  They both know how to work a room and I have yet to meet anyone that doesn't like either of them.

But her warm brown eyes, gorgeous beyond belief hair, and love of horses?  That's all Emmy original.  Her sweet little soul is one of the most precious things I have ever seen, and I hope she never loses it.

I am simply amazed every day by how much she is growing and learning, especially since she started school.  {this is the part where I brag just a bit about my kid} She can spell her name now and write so many letters of the alphabet.  She can count to 10 forwards and backwards in Spanish.  She can word for word repeat five of the Mercer Mayer books we have.  Her computer skills are unlike anything I've seen in a kid before.  She says her prayers, sings so many songs, and can recite the Pledge of Allegiance.  She knows the days of the week, and the months of the year.  She draws pictures of people now, including their pretty clothes, obviously.  She is one of the youngest in her class, but keeping up with the rest no problem!

We took Emmy for her four year check-up the other day, and it really was an enjoyable experience Except for Skip who was in the car with a screaming Charlie because her little hospital visit made her terrified of doctors.  Also except for trying to get her to pee in a cup, which was done but not on my list of top 10 things to do.  Emmy is 3'4 and weighs 37lbs.  That puts her at 75% for both!  Girlfriend is going to be taller than her mom soon!  She did the vision and hearing test, omg cutest thing ever.  She did have to get her finger pricked for a blood test, but she barely even flinched!  She stuck her little arm out when it was time to take her blood pressure and sat perfectly still when I was talking to the nurse.

Once the doctor came in, she had to draw a circle, cross, and a person, check!  She had to answer the following questions:
Doc: If you're hungry you would..
E: Eat lunch
Doc: If you're tired you would..
E: Go to bed
Doc: If you're cold you would...
E: Put on a scarf

She had to tell him the color and shapes of some blocks he had as well, done!  He said she is perfectly healthy and thriving.  I didn't think I could have been happier, until as we were leaving, Emmy told him that the NY Jets are stinky.  That's my girl!!

Emmy, you are such a wonderful, amazing little girl.  The past four years have been the best of my life.  I cannot wait to see how you grow and change from here! Emmy, I love you, I love you more, I love you most.

And to end, here is one  of the cutest videos you'll ever see.

  1. She is adorable! Seems like such a fun age! While I'm sad to see my darling girl reach a year old, I am also really excited for her to grow, learn, and change into a little person.
