Kitchen Apprentice
Over the last decade, I have developed a love of cooking. I'm not that creative or adventurous in my dishes, but I really enjoy preparing meals for my family. I wouldn't label myself a great cook by any means, but I can definitely hold my own. I love cranking up some music and dancing around while stirring and keeping all the pots and pans under control.
But in the past few months I've had to lower the music and take a little more time while I cook. I am training a little apprentice after all.
I can't remember if I first encouraged Emmy to help out in the kitchen, or if she requested it herself. But either way, I truly love it. Yes, it slows down the whole process and she is often in the way more than helping, but it is such a special time for us together.
I love showing her about different ingredients and how they mix together.
I love how it makes her feel like a big girl.
I love how she always wants to experiment and mix random things together to see how they taste {we do, however, do this in a separate bowl from what we are all eating}
I love how proud she is of herself when she cracks an egg perfectly or measures out just the right amount of something.
I love that this is our special time to laugh, be silly, and really talk.
I love that I'm teaching her how to cook for herself and others one day.
I love how stinkin' cute she looks standing on the step stool!
I really love this special time we have together and hope she always want to help Mommy in the kitchen. It will be even more special when Charlie can join us too!
Sometimes I just love being a girl mom.

Cute!
ReplyDeleteSee, I'm the opposite. I HATE when my kids are in the kitchen with me. I'm not a fan of cooking to begin with and I find if they're in there, it takes so much longer and I get so much crankier.
YES! Teaching them to cook is just amazing. You feel the whole time like you're giving your child the world, right?
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't done it yet, making pasta from scratch was a huge hit in my house. It's actually really simple even if it takes a lot of time. Isaac was in from the words "flour volcano with egg lava."
E loves helping out too! It does make it a bit longer and I don't let her help all the time (I hate cooking so I just want it done), but if we're baking or something, I love letting her help. They are so fun right now!
ReplyDeleteShe's a cute little helper! ;)
ReplyDeletei love this post, i really really love it!! wth avrie being 20 months i am starting to have her help in making "prepping" her morning oatmeal by pouring everything into the bowl and pushing the microwave buttons. she loves it! she is always asking to be picked up while we are cooking so that she can watch. i love it! i can't wait until she is old enough to REALLY help! b/c right now, all she is is toddler quality check! ;)
