The One Where I Make You Feel Better as a Mom

I was inspired last night after some Instagram conversations about what crazy things you, and/or your kids have done...specifically about eating things.

And so to make you all feel better about yourselves, I'll recount a story I cringe even writing about.

A little over a year ago, Emmy developed an obsession with glow sticks.  I'll blame Pinterest as she first got them in her bath one night.  After that it was true love, girlfriend wanted them everywhere.

Occasionally we'd let her have them at bedtime.  We'd keep an eye on her on the monitor until she fell asleep, then sneak in and take them out again.  We thought we were so good.

Till one afternoon when I went to go change Emmy's diaper and it was filled with neon blue poop.  Neon blue.  Skip and I obviously freaked out and were trying to figure out what she ate that would have caused this.

We tore apart her room and bed...and then we found it.  A glow stick that had fallen on the side of her bed, with teeny tiny bite marks in them.  Enough to drink out all the liquid.

My kid at a glow-stick.

So we obviously called the Dr. in a panic.  The best part is that as soon as we mentioned the neon blue poop, the doctor knew exactly what she had done.

Apparently it happens a lot.

He reassured us that they are non toxic and she didn't even have to come in for a visit. Phew.

That was obviously the last time Emmy got to play with a glow stick.  So whenever you're having a  bad day as a mom...just remember that at leas you're kid didn't eat a glow stick.

So really, I can't be the only one whose kid has eaten something weird.  Please hare your stories below!!

  3. This story didn't make me feel better, but rather that all mom's are in this together. ;)

I found M eating dirt once. She was about 18 months. And she used to like to try to eat desitin. She would want to help put it on, so I'd let her get the teeniest tiniest amount on her finger. Then she'd think it was funny to try to eat it. LOVELY.
