Girls Weekend at the Shore

I just back yesterday from a girls weekend down the shore.  It is the first time I've done such a thing, well, since Skip and I got married.

A few of my girlfriends have been going down every year for the last few summers, but I was either pregnant, nursing a newborn, or dealing with some big family drama.  So I was so excited to head down with them this year!

We stayed in Point Pleasant, and headed down Saturday morning.
Attempted a pic with my girls before I left...that went well
The weather wasn't great at all, a little chilly and raining, but we wouldn't let it damper our spirits.  Three of us headed down in one car, and we met up with the other two girls.  Once we checked in, we spent the afternoon eating, relaxing, and exploring the town a little.

I got in a quick run before we started getting ready to go out, and was amazed at just how flat it was down there!  Running would be so much easier if I didn't have to worry about hills and inclines like I do around here.
Gorgeous view on my run
Once ready, we headed over to the boardwalk to hit up one of the more popular bars.  It was super crowded, but we had a great time dancing and singing along with both the band and DJ.  Nothing makes you feel more Jersey than belting out Bon Jovi while dancing on a boardwalk down the shore.

I'll be honest here for a moment.  I did have a really rough time once we got back to the room Saturday night.  I missed Skip and the girls like crazy.  If I had my car down there, I totally would have driven home the next morning.  It was just hard because I'd never done something like this before, and it really was tough being away from them.  But I am so glad I stuck it out, because I really needed this time away and had such a great time on Sunday.

Thankfully, I saw the sun shining brightly when we woke up Sunday morning.  We quick got ourselves ready, and then spent the entire day on the beach.  There are very few things I love more in this world, than laying on the beach, staring out at the ocean, with a Diet Coke in my hand.

We didn't leave until close to 5:00 pm, and that was only because we were all so hungry.  I was also anxious to FaceTime with the girls and get some pictures of them from Skip.

About to FaceTime!

Skip had a little boys night while we were gone
After dinner we had plans to all hop in a cab and go to another bar.  But after some discussion, our little group decided to split up.  Two of the girls went out again, and three of us decided to take it easy.  We threw on our pajamas and headed back to the boardwalk.

We walked along the entire thing, stumbling upon a giant sandcastle that was erected to raise money for all the places destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.  It was truly magnificent.

Then we grabbed some funnel cake and zeppolis and went to sit on the beach.  There is something so relaxing about feeling the cold sand and breeze while laying back and looking at the stars.  We stayed until our toes got too cold and then just headed back to our room for more girl talk.

After a very late night, and a pretty early morning on Monday, we headed back home.  Normally I would be so sad to leave the beach, but this time I couldn't get home fast enough.  I was so so excited to see Skip and the girls.  I think they missed me too:)

Overall, I had such a great weekend, and am so glad I went.  It is important for me to get a break sometimes and relax a bit.  And Skip had a really good time with the girls as well!  This is definitely something I'll be doing again next year!!

All you moms, do you get away for the weekend with your friends ever?  Would you?
