A Day for Mothers
Good morning! I hope all you moms had a wonderful, relaxing day yesterday. I know some people think it's silly to celebrate a Hallmark-type holiday, but I am all about moms getting a whole day of recognition {dads too!}
I can honestly say that yesterday was the most wonderful Mother's Day I've ever had. I was able to relax, spend time with my family, and just felt very loved and appreciated.
First off, Skip didn't have to go into work, which is pretty much the best gift of all. He let me sleep in until 10 while he and the girls got a few last minute things done. When I finally came downstairs, I was greeted with a Dunkin Donuts coffee, donuts, and a big sign that said "We Love Mommy". I was absolutely spoiled by gifts of clothes, jewelry, and a special notebook Skip made me in lieu of cards from the girls. I was also given a corsage to wear when we went out later!!
After breakfast, we Face Timed with my mom and figured out what our plans would be for the rest of the day. Skip had made lunch and dinner reservations at two different restaurants, so that I could chose when/where I wanted to go. Since it was already a bit later, we decided dinner was the better option. So instead we headed out to pick up some take-out for lunch and of course cupcakes!
The girls went down for their nap and I headed out for a quick run. Then it was back home for some Emmy snuggles. I was then able to really take my time showering and getting ready for dinner.
Our dinner reservation was for earlier than we normally eat, but even so the restaurant was packed. We were seated right away, but it became obvious pretty early on, that Charlie was not happy about eating out. Rather than spend the entire dinner attempting to quell her screaming and hopefully shoving a few bites of dinner in my mouth, I figured it was best to cut our losses, and just have our dinner wrapped up. So that's what we did. We requested our meals be changed to take-out, and we all headed home.
Sure it was disappointing to have to quick change our plans, but we were home and eating in no time. And much more relaxed for everyone!!
After we ate, a Mother's Day miracle happened, and Skip was able to get some fabulous pictures of me and the girls!! This is definitely a rarity around here and I will treasure these photos forever.
We then had a little playtime outside before getting back in the car to pick up some desserts for everyone. The girls ate theirs in the car, and Skip and I saved ours to have while we watched The Butler after the girls had gone to bed.
The day was simply wonderful and I have never felt so loved and appreciated. I am the luckiest girl in the world to be entrusted with the role of mother to these sweet little girls.
