Washington DC - Day 3
After our whirlwind day on Monday, we decided to take things a little slower on Tuesday.
We started off with a tour of the Capital. We had set it up through our Congressman's office a few months ago. Because Skip is a veteran, we were able to take a private tour. Not only did we get to see the underground subways that the Congressmen take when they have to make it in time to vote, but we also got to see John Kerry! I'm not a fan of his, but it was pretty cool that he was arm's distance away from me.
Sadly, a lot of the Capital was closed off because of all the construction they're doing. But we still enjoyed the experience.
We even got to go see the floor of the House of Representatives. I was excited because they were voting that day, but sadly they broke for lunch just before we got in there. Maybe next time!
We took pictures outside when the tour was done, and in front of the Supreme Court and Library of Congress.
We met up with a friend after that and had lunch in this little French cafe. We stopped in the Holocaust Museum afterwards. It was a very sad, somber experience and obviously I didn't think it was right to take pictures. {FYI, the main part of the museum uses a ticket system. They are free, but once they reach capacity for the day they won't give out any more....with the exception of civil servants, cops, firemen, military, etc...so make sure to ask about it...that's how we got in!}
We took a little break from DC then and went to Old Town Alexandria in Virginia. I absolutely fell in love with this town. It was adorable and right on the water. We saw an old torpedo factory, had dinner, walked around with ice cream, and even saw an apartment George Washington stayed in.
If you get the chance, absolutely check this town out!
Next up, our 10 year anniversary!

Oh your pictures of Old Town make me "homesick"! Hands down the coolest place I ever lived. I miss it!
