You Asked, I Answered Part One
On Twitter and Facebook recently, I encouraged all of you to ask me whatever you want! I had also done the same on my 1000th post giveaway and never got around to answering them...whoops.
I got some great questions and will be answering them over the next two days!
Did you have family in the military or police force before you were married? Were you at all prepared for it?
The only experience I had with law enforcement before I met Skip was that my best friend's dad was a state trooper. But when I met Skip he was in the police academy, so we've just kind of figured it out together.
I did have some experience with the military before I met Skip though. My cousin {who is three years older than me} went to West Point. I was always really close with him, and became very close with a lot of his friends, during that time. I learned a lot about the military while they were at West Point. I also learned a lot about deployments when all those boys headed off to Iraq at the start of the war. Obviously, you can never quite be prepared to send the man you want to spend the rest of your life with off to war, but I was not totally unprepared about what being involved with someone in the military meant.
What type of bedtime routine do you have for your kids?
We actually just changed up the girls bedtime routine. Now that Charlie is older, we put them down at the same time. They get a bath together sometime after dinner around 6:30 or so. They get in their jammies and then come downstairs to relax and watch a little TV. We bring them both upstairs at 7:30. I changed Charlie's diaper while Emmy goes to the bathroom and brushes her teeth. Then I bring them both into Emmy's room. We read a story together {normally a Mercer Meyer, Emm'ys current favorites} Then we sing songs. I sing Amazing Grace, O Meredith {O Danny Boy with Emmy's name put in} and The Rainbow Connection. We finish it off with prayers. Then I bring Charlie into her room and put her down, and go back into Emmy's room to tuck her in. It seems to go pretty smoothly most nights. My goal is to have them both down by 8:00.
I would like to know how do you fill your day?
This is something I think a lot of people wonder about stay-at-home moms. I do plan on doing a "day in the life" post sometime soon. But I'll do a quick run down here.
When Emmy has school {and Skip has to work the early shift, he's gone by 6:00}we're all up around 6:30. I get everyone up, dressed, and fed. We head to school by 7:40. Then Charlie and I come home. I tidy up and we spend the morning either cleaning, running errands, and spending a little one on one time together. We go get Emmy at 12:00. We come home and have lunch and then they both go down for a nap at 1:00-3:00. I tidy up from lunch, do some blogging, pay bills, do some laundry. Skip gets home around 3:30. Girls get a snack and we'll try and do something as a family. Then I start making dinner and we eat around 5:30. Skip gives the girls a bath and a lot of times I head out to the gym. If he's home, Skip also normally puts the girls to bed. I'll get home from the gym and shower. Then Skip and I either hang out just the two of us, get things done, or have friends over. Obviously things are different if he's working nights. I'll try and touch on that in another post.
I'll address some more questions tomorrow. Feel free to ask me some more if you want too!

Very interesting!
ReplyDeleteI did have experience with the military before I was married. My mom was also in the Air Force so that helped.
